SIX SUSTAINABLE BRANDS WE LOVE!

At MAWDE, we’re as passionate about sustainability as we are about super-comfortable sloungewear. That’s why our mantra is “making a difference in your everyday life, one thread at a time”. We favour forward-thinking so we’re obsessed with creating responsibly made gear that gives back to the planet.

Like you, we love to shop sustainably, so here we share six other brilliant sustainable brands, all working hard to make the world a better place.

Better Packaging

At The Better Packaging Co. they’re very upfront about the fact that “we don’t like packaging. But we do understand it’s necessary and helps prevent waste. We also know packaging can be done a whole lot better. Cutting-edge, sustainable materials and technologies exist. Our mission is to bring them to you.

“Having seen, firsthand, the amount of plastic waste generated by the eCommerce industry we, the company’s founders – Rebecca and Kate - decided to start with courier packaging.

“We are determined to do this right. As the leader in this industry we are continuously innovating and know how important it is to set the highest standard.”

thankyou

thankyou knows that to change the world you must change the system.

Right now, there are approximately 736 million people stuck in extreme poverty, with many dying daily simply because they lack access to basics for their health, education and living standards. The funding gap to end extreme poverty by 2030 is estimated at US$2.5 trillion a year. Meanwhile consumer spending totals $US63 trillion a year.

“Our mission; amplifying impactful change-makers to better serve people by redistributing wealth from consumer spending. And we need your help. Our vision: a world where not one person lives in extreme poverty.”

allbirds

Kiwi shoe brand allbirds has a newsflash: your outfit is killing the planet. “Kind of heavy, huh? Sorry about that. But the time for beating around the bush has come and gone. Climate change and its effects are putting humanity’s survival at risk.

“And the fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to this fairly dire crisis we’ve gotten ourselves into.

“Good news, though – it’s not too late to get our act together. But it means businesses everywhere need to re-evaluate their priorities. And consumers need to hold them accountable. Lucky for us, reducing our environmental impact has been a top priority since day one.”

The Source

The Source Bulk Foods is all about zero waste. “By choosing to buy bulk and recycling your containers, not only can you buy as much or as little as you want, you are also deciding to make a difference.

“We’ve worked hard to bring down the price of over 50 everyday essentials because buying quality products shouldn’t cost the earth.”

The locally owned stores offer selected grains, beans, oils, baking, health and cleaning products and much more. And there’s no plastic involved.

“There’s never been a better reason to visit your neighbourhood The Source Bulk Foods and stock up on essentials.”

Who Gives a Crap

At Who Gives A Crap, they love toilet paper and they love toilet jokes. “But, really we love toilet paper because for us, it’s our way of making a difference. We started Who Gives a Crap because roughly 40% of the global population doesn’t have access to a toilet. That means around 289,000 children under five die every year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation. That’s almost 800 children per day, or one child every two minutes.”

That’s why 50 percent of Who Gives A Crap’s profits go to building toilets and improving sanitation in the developing world.

It’s good for the world (sustainable), good for people (building toilets) and good for your bum (no inks dyes and scents) and delivered right to your toilet door.

SoL Cups

SoL Cups glass cups are plastic-free, reusable and beautiful. “SoL products are 100 percent hand-blown glass, with recyclable silicon, handmade and recyclable packaging and a plastic-free delivery system. Our SoL products are designed to be the most beautiful, high-quality and luxury glassware available, because we want you to feel amazing while doing something amazing for the planet.

“When SoL thinks about ending waste, we don’t just want you to think about recycling, or reusable products on a surface level, we want you to start thinking about products from the production phase, from the source, how are the goods you buy made? We designed SoL Cups to help people move from a throwaway mindset to a more environmentally supportive one.”

Shop smart, shop sustainable!
